Adults are meant to teach children the ways of the Lord and how to take a moral course in life.
But what are parents to do when these young children may already be smarter than them! Children are a wonderful blessing from God, and it is a testament to His glory that some are born with such exceptional wisdom.
Genius child on a mission to prove Steven Hawking Wrong
William Maillis is certainly not the average 11-year-old. He is far beyond his years in regards to education, understanding, and wisdom, and he is dedicating his life to the idea of being an astrophysicist and proving the existence of God.
William is not simply dreaming of becoming an astrophysicist one day in the distant future – he is already well on the path toward becoming one! William, a Pennsylvania native, graduated from high school when he was merely nine years old in May 2016~ After attending community college classes he enrolled in Carnegie Mellon University last fall. His father, Peter, explains that the boy was speaking full sentences when he was merely seven months old. At 21 months he had master addition, and by two years he was doing multiplication. At four he was learning algebra, sign language, and how to read Greek. He read an entire 209-page geometry textbook in one night when he was five, and when he woke up, he was able to solve circumference problems with no difficulty. Truly a gifted child.
A strong belief in God inspired William’s goal to become an astrophysicist. The boy disagrees with some elements of Einstein and Hawking’s theories regarding black holes and has begun developing his own ideas about how and why the universe exists. His father, Peter, is a Greek Orthodox Priest, and he has been raised to have a strong understanding of faith and God. Now, he wants to share that insight with others and prove that an outside force (God) is the only thing that could have possibly created the universe.
Stephen Hawking, who passed away this week at the age of 76, held extremely contrasting and inaccurate beliefs. Hawking once said
“Before we understood science, it was natural to believe that God created the universe, but now science offers a more convincing explanation. What I meant by ‘we would know the mind of God’ is we would know everything that God would know if there was a God, but there isn’t. I’m an atheist.”
William is determined to defend his faith and prove Hawkings wrong. Here is what he has to say in response:
“Well because there are these atheists that try to say that there is no God, when in reality it takes more faith to believe that there’s no God than it does to believe that there is a God… Because it makes more sense that something created the universe than that the universe created itself. It takes more faith to say the universe created itself than to say something other created the universe because that is more logical.”
This young man is going places, and his understanding of apologetics is impressive for his age! He will surely play an important role in getting science back to its religious roots in the future and launching a new wave of Christian leadership.
